Principle for the Operation of the brake pad wear sensor/indicator
When the driver applies pressure to the brake pads, a vehicle with disc brakes slows and stops
the rotor, which is attached to the wheel hub. Whenever the brake pads wear down, a metal
sheet will make contact with the rotor and produce bad screaming noise. However, if the brake
pad wear sensors are installed, this bad screaming noise will not happen. By mounting of Brake

the front and one for the rear with algorithms and software to precisely monitor the brake pad
wear. Electronic indicators serve as controllers that associate to a computer module. The brake
wear indicators are mounted to the brake pad and are designed to maintain frictional interaction
with the brake rotor surface. The mounting interface operates a spring clip to hold the indicator
in place with a retention force.

warn the driver of brake pads wears. The brake pad wear sensors can be single- phase or multi-
phase sensors. Multi-phase sensors have resistor circuits at different heights in the sensor
cover. When the first resistor circuit breakdowns, the vehicle’s information center will start
calculating the remaining brake pad life, mileage, brake pads operating time, brake pads
temperature, speed and pressure.
The resistor circuits of brake pad wear indicator predict the remaining brake pad life and warn
the driver when they will be need to replaced. This is very important to prevent the vehicle from
major accidents, for passenger safety and as well the reducing vehicles maintenance cost in
case of failure. The automotive industry looking very seriously the consumer demand for vehicle
safety features in different weather and environment conditions.
